FLEXCO Welcomes New Employees to Support Growing Product Line
Flexco, Downers Grove, IL, recently welcomed three new employees to its facility in Bolingbrook, IL. (l to r) Kevin Moran and Mike Mass were appointed project managers, while Joel Wagner was brought to Flexco as a design engineer to support its transfer chute product line. Moran and Mass are responsible for initiating, managing and executing project plans, working as liaisons between the customer, design team, application engineers, and sales team to ensure that all aspects of projects are executed correctly.
In the project manager role, Moran and Mass oversee project progression for Flexco Controlled Flow Material Transfer Systems, which utilize the most powerful controlled-flow technology on the market: Tasman Warajay Technology.
“Flexco material transfer systems really do present an unparalleled opportunity to increase efficiency and reduce problems for our customers,” Moran said. “Incorporating Tasman Warajay Technology into a transfer chute system can boost an operation’s output by significantly reducing spillage and delivering the maximum amount of material to the desired destination.”
Bringing 20 years of project management experience to the Flexco team, Mass commented that he hopes to use his “technical background to further advance the successful reputation that Flexco has in the industry.”
Wagner adds 16 years of experience designing vibratory process equipment to the transfer chutes line. In his position as design engineer, Wagner will primarily be responsible for designing vibrating fines trays.
For more than 27 years, Flexco has been solving transfer point challenges with the most powerful controlled-flow technology on the market: Tasman Warajay Technology. These systems not only improve throughput, but also reduce excessive dust, spillage, plugging, downtime, belt wear, and combination dangers.

BECKER WHOLESALE MINE SUPPLY
Mining communication products expert BECKER WHOLESALE MINE SUPPLY has signed its newest partnership agreement with global fiber optic communications developer OTN SYSTEMS to bring the latest in fiber optic network communication technology to the North American mining industry.
The teaming, which was made official last month, is the another entry for BWMS into the fiber optic market for the mining industry, again expanding its product portfolio, while also giving it access to a vast network of new and existing OTN Systems customers enjoying the benefits of an Open Transport Network (OTN) design.
For OTN Systems, the new partnership means an enhancement to its customer base in North America, as it has worked for more than 15 years serving and supporting the communications backbone infrastructures of mining companies worldwide.
At the center of this landmark deal is OTN Systems’ OTN-X3M, an easy-to-use, open and highly reliable industrial networking solution developed in 2008 that joins multiple applications to support automation, safety and efficiency on one pair of fiber.
Ideal for placement at open cast and underground mines as well as throughout the tunneling industry, the OTN system can transmit all of an operation’s critical information – including voice, data, LAN, video, SCADA and process control – between remote locations in the mine and the operations control room.
OTN-X3M includes video features such as analog and IP capabilities; embedded channel switching; integrated video-over-IP streaming; real-time high-resolution images; an integrated video recording and management solution; and open interfaces for third-party products.
The OTN Management System, or OMS, capabilities include Graphical User Interface (GUI), client-server architecture with single, multiple or remote clients; hardware management for components including nodes, interfaces and optical connections; connection management, monitoring and error reporting; internal and SNMP alarm forwarding; on- and offline operation, and more.
Topping off the broad capacities of OTN-X3M is its unmatched delivery of a high reliable communications network for industrial environments. The OTN Systems communications solution will segregate 100 percent the traffic for each application running on its backbone, lowering the risk of network issues and complexity as demanding applications, such as high-definition video cameras, require more bandwidth.
“We are very excited to be bringing a new world of advanced fiber optic technology to the mining industry, and the versatile capabilities and top-quality design of OTN’s system is unmatched,” said BWMS President Bill Hensler.
“We couldn’t be happier about our new partnership, and we cannot wait to show the industry everything that this system can do.”
“OTN Systems shares the enthusiasm of our new partner Becker Wholesale Mine Supply, as it will bring this highly-capable technology to increase business in the ever-growing mining industry of North America,” said Tom Ceunen, Sales Director for OTN Systems in North America.
“For mines needing an easy-to-use, very reliable communications network for their SCADA, voice, video and data, OTN is the ideal solution, and both BWMS and OTN Systems will work hard to bring it to them.”

Tunnel Radio Announces MSHA approval issued for first of its kind Wireless Methane Sensor
Tunnel Radio of America is pleased to announce the recent US Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Approval of the latest technology, the TR‐MX‐332 Methane and CO detection capable wireless reader for coal mine use.
Designed for use with our MineAx® Bird Dog RFID personnel tracking system, this new micro‐technology now makes it feasible to wirelessly deploy a multitude of Methane and CO (carbon dioxide) sensors anywhere needed in a coal mine environment. For the first time, this critical gas level information can be transmitted wirelessly to the surface from the primary methane sources deep in a mine ‐ the working section faces and long‐wall mining zones. Complementing our proven long‐range wireless readers, these sensors may operate for months on battery power and provide underground personnel location and gas levels simultaneously to surface computer displays.
As coal mines are now required by MSHA to deploy electronic tracking under the Miner Act of 2006, the widely deployed Tunnel Radio MineAx® RFID technology can additionally be used to provide very precise methane and hydrocarbon group gas measurement 24/7 in the mines using a new digital technology. Sensors can be located exactly where needed, a shortcoming of existing wired technologies, that also must be disabled once an emergency occurs. In addition, the same device is equipped with CO (carbon monoxide) sensor – (a precursor gas emitted from very low level combustion sources), to alert mine crews immediately of unsafe thermal conditions, giving time to react before a fire breaks out. The unit also transmits temperature, humidity and barometric pressure readings, providing atmospheric data helpful in evaluating overall mine ventilation system effectiveness, a critical factor in recent mine disasters. Incorporating the most advanced digital technology available, MineAx® creates a modern laboratory within a mine.
With this equipment deployed, mine personnel will finally have the tools to prevent deadly methane detonation accidents as never before, prevalent for decades in the industry. Critical Information may now be viewed from the comfort of the office, home or Head Quarters by simply accessing the local mine computer through the internet, including the use of most mobile devices. The MineAx® Bird Dog tracking system is already deployed in over 50 mines across three countries.
Their motto is, “a wireless mine is a safer mine”.
Both MineAx® and MultiHopTM have trademarks filed and such marks are the express property of Tunnel Radio of America. Patents are pending. Tunnel Radio of America’s home office is located near Corvallis, Oregon with a field office in Lexington, KY. We have dealers in several States including outlets in Canada and Australia. We have provided services and manufactured technologies serving the Mining and Railroad industries for over 20 years.
