Dr. Al Campoli of Jennmar Corporation, Pittsburgh, PA, vice president of special products, is offering his services to help explain the somewhat confusing requirements regarding mine seals. Dr. Campoli has been involved in the design, regulatory approval, and installation of ventilation seals for many years and is familiar with the current mine sealing challenges facing mine operators.   Dr. Campoli has a BS in mining engineering and MS in engineering management from the University of Pittsburgh. Jim McHugh joins Kraft Power Corporation, Suwanee, GA, as power transmission specialist for Kraft’s brand fluid coupling and clutch line.  McHugh has 28 years experience in applications, sales and sales management for mechanical power transmission equipment, including clutches, brakes, backstops, motors and controls. Julie Clark promoted to vice president of Barlow Marketing Group (BMG), Fort Wayne, IN.  Her 18 years of experience where she will be working includes print and electronic design, multiple Web site developments, electronic marketing and e-commerce, video development, distributor training and marketing, Webinars and Web casts.

Sara J. Stees and John W. Peters, D. Eng. Join the staff of Skelly and Loy, Harrisburg, PA, as environmental specialist and senior mining specialist, respectively.  Ms. Stees, a recent graduate from Shippenburg University with a degree in geoenvironmental science, will be responsible for regulatory analysis, permit application preparation, agency coordination, and data analysis and management.  She is GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and represents Skelly and Loy as a member of the Pennsylvania Governor’s Invasive Species Council.  Dr. Peters has extensive experience, having worked in the mining industry since 1963, including design, construction, and development of underground hard rock and coal mining operations.  He holds an Engineer of Mines degree from the Colorado School of Mines, a Master of Science degree in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri, Rolla, and a Doctorate in Industrial Engineering from the University of Oklahoma.  Bruce P. Willman, CPSSc and Luke E. Smeltz have also joined Skelly and Loy’s after market services group as soil scientists.  Willman brings more than 30 years experience in soil science and agronomy, including soil mapping, classification, and interpretation.  He has bachelor of science and master of science degrees in agronomy from The Pennsylvania State University and in 2006 received the Outstanding Soil Scientist award.  Smeltz has more than 20 years of applied experience in soil and groundwater characterization and remediation, soil mapping, classification, and interpretations for on-site waste and wastewater disposal, beneficial land use application, and hazardous waste remediation, and wetlands delineation and mitigation. He holds a bachelor of science degree from The Pennsylvania State University.

 

Ralph Shockley, Jr. joins Fairchild International, Glen Lyn, VA, to manage the company’s recently-established Midwest Division, responsible for sales and service operations at Fairchild’s warehouse facility in DuQuoin, IL, near Carbondale.  Previously, Shockley was maintenance supervisor for Freeman Energy and has spent his career in a variety of mine maintenance positions with Freeman, Arch of Illinois and Carter Coal.  Shockley holds all necessary State of Illinois mining certifications and MSHA electrical cards.

 

Donovan Symonds, chairman of Norwest Corporation, has retired.  Dr. Symonds is an original founder of the company and has served in a variety of capacities during his 28-year tenure, including chairman and president.  He has been instrumental in growing Norwest from an initial partnership of five professionals in 1979 to a full-service international energy, mining, and environmental consulting practice with nearly 250 full-time employees.  Symonds is currently president of the Coal Preparation Society of America and a member of the board of directors of  the National Mining Association.  He was awarded the 2006 Erskine Ramsey medal by the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers to recognize distinguished achievements in the coal mining industry.

 

Mark Bartkoski, a 28-year veteran of the coal mining industry, named president of Wellmore Coal Company, Big Rock, VA, a subsidiary of United Coal Company.  He recently served as director of operations support for United, and demonstrated expertise in technical direction, management and troubleshooting solutions for 27 underground and surface mines.  He also performed analysis for the company’s potential acquisitions and new development projects.

 

Dan Emdle appointed director of L-3 Communications’ new Mine Safety Department.  Emdle, a retired U.S. Navy officer with over 25 years service, will oversee the development and sale of L-3’s mine safety projects including the Wireless Mesh mine communications system and the Location Tracking system (both developed under U.S. government contracts).  Emdle has over 15 years experience in the areas of communications systems engineering, spectrum management, and strategic planning.

 

Richard A. Navarre named president and chief commercial officer of Peabody Energy, St. Louis, MO., responsible for Peabody’s global sales and trading; business development; strategic planning, generation and Btu Conversion Initiatives; resource development opportunities; international growth initiatives including China; business performance and investor relations and corporate communications. Navarro will also remain chief financial officer until a successor is named.

 

Bob Sage promoted to vice president of wireless sales, nTelos WIRELESS, Waynesboro,

VA, and will be responsible for increasing wireless sales in all nTelos markets as well as supporting the wireless sales organization, which includes developing the best trained, most knowledgeable and customer focused sales organization in the industry.

 

Rex A. Waller, P.E. named vice president of sales for Continental Conveyor & Equipment Company, Winfield, AL, and will oversee all the company sales operations.  He was 21 years of experience with Continental with a BS degree in civil and structural engineering from the University of Missouri.  Vince Richardson succeeds Waller as director, field sales and services and is responsible for all sales and services operations in North America.  He has over 20 years experience in the industry and holds a BS degree in mining engineering from WVU and a masters of BA from Gannon University.

 

Christopher Fritz joins Safety Vision, Houston, TX, as chief technology officer, responsible for developing technical solutions that help account executives win proposals in the mass transit, law enforcement and pupil transportation sectors.  He will also be integral in developing partners to round out the company’s mobile video solutions suite and identifying new technology trends that keep Safety Vision on the leading edge.

 

Bill Hayes has joined Bowen Energy’s board of directors as a non-executive director, as it finalizes the $A1 million acquisition of Kondor Holdings. 

 

Jim Mustard has joined Mantle Resources Inc., Vancouver, and B.C., as president.  Mustard is a geologist and professional engineer with extensive exploration, development and operating experience in North and South America including Canada with Cyprus Anvil Mining Corp., Amax Group of Companies and Normanco Mining Inc.  He was vice president and senior mining analyst with Haywood Securities Inc. before joining Mantle Resources.

 

Michael R. Castle appointed senior vice president and chief financial officer (CFO) for National Coal Corp., Knoxville, TN. replacing current CFO and board member Mike Love, who is leaving to pursue other opportunities.  Castle has been in professional practice specializing in management advisory and consulting services since 1999, offering financial and operational skill sets designed to help companies grow, acquire, or sell coal mining and natural gas properties throughout Kentucky, West Virginia, Ohio, Tennessee and Virginia.

 

Ian Kraemer named managing director of Mantle Mining beginning in February, following the company’s acquisition of a 500 million ton Mt. Mulligan coal deposit near Cairns.  Stephen de Belle will retire at this position and assume a new role at Mantle Mining as a non-executive director.

 

Mark Gray, founder and managing director of Bounty Industries, has resigned to accept an executive position in an international resource exploration company.  He was instrumental in commercializing Thin Seam Mining in Australia.

 

Gary Cochrane, managing director at Resource Management International, has joined the board of Bounty Industries as an independent director.  Cochrane formerly held the position of managing director at Barlow Jonker and was a founding shareholder in Millennium Coal.

 

Michael Hunt appointed non-executive chairman of Comdek, following Comdek’s acquisition of three coal tenements in South Africa.  Geologist Rowan Armstrong will take over as operations manager for the company, having worked throughout South Africa with Rand Mines-Ingwe Group in the Witbank coalfield and for Blue Diamond Mines.  Hunt was the founding chairman of formerly Australian-listed Red Back Mining and serves on the boards of A1 Minerals, Balkans Gold and Toronto-listed Red Back Mining.

 

L. Cartan Sumner, Jr. named to the new position of director of international government relations for Peabody Energy, St. Louis, MO.  Sumner will be responsible for working with governments to create a policy friendly framework for the greater use of coal to meet growing global energy needs.  Sumner previously served as director of corporate development for Peabody.

 

Harold P. Quinn, Jr. promoted to executive vice president and general counsel for the National Mining Association (NMA).  He will assist in the day-to-day activities focused on the implementation of strategic policy objectives.  He has been with NMA for 22 years and will retain responsibility for NMA’s legal and regulatory endeavors.  Rich Nolan has been promoted to senior vice president of government affairs and will have overall responsibility for the association’s advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill.  Dan Gerkin selected as senior vice president of political affairs and will assume responsibility for NMA’s grassroots advocacy program, ACT Online, and Liaison with state mining associations.  Moya Phelleps will assume the new position of senior vice president of member services, continuing responsibilities for member recruitment and management of NMA’s MINExpo International.  Carol Raulston will continue as NMA’s senior vice president for communications, responsible for media relations, advertising, statistical services and the association’s web site.

 

Ralph Burchfield, president off road products division, Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC, Nashville, TN has retired.  In a streamlined organizational structure, Kenneth Allen has been promoted to vice president, FSAG; Thomas Shawn Rasey promoted to vice president, OTR; and Scott Gateley named general manager, FSTU.

 

Dr. Paul Krause promoted to principal ecologist for ARCADIS Intl, Los Angeles, CA, and will help lead the ARCADIS Risk Assessment and Ecological Sciences team that provides commercial and federal clients with sustainable solution to problems involving the investigation, restoration, and monitoring of terrestrial, freshwater, and marine ecosystems.

 

Wang Xishou joins EESTech Inc. to head up the company’s business development in China.  He will assist EESTech in accordance with arrangements to supply 30 Mw Hybrid Coal Gas Turbines systems contracted to coal mines throughout China under a twenty-year Power Purchase Agreements.  A native of Shanxi, Wang brings over 40 years of engineering experience in the coal mining industry.

 

Carl Bauer, director of the National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) has received the 2007 Annual Achievement Award from The Washington Coal Club.  Susan Carver, vice president of congressional affairs (retired) of NMA and George Rudins, U.S. Dept. of Energy deputy assistant secretary for coal and power systems (retired) in the Office of Fossil Energy, received awards for the 2007 Senator Jennings Randolph Lifetime Achievement Awards.  Bauer was appointed NETL director in 2006 and oversees the implementation of major science and technology development programs to resolve the environmental, supply and reliability constraints of producing and using fossil resources.  Carver is a recognized expert in the congressional budget and appropriations processes and has shepherded coal-based technology programs through Congress, including the first Clean Coal Technology effort.  Rudins, together with NETL, industry and academia, successfully positioned the U.S. as the world leader in clean coal technology and in CO2 capture and storage technology.

 

Wilco Uys, former head of Sasol Mining operations has joined BHP Billiton Energy Coal South Africa (Becsa) to serve as operations vice president under COO Wayne Isaacs.

 

Stanley C. Suboleski nominated by President Bush to be assistant secretary for fossil energy. Suboleski was chief operating officer for Massey Energy from 2001 to 2003, and continues to work as an independent consultant with Massey.  A former professor of mining engineering at Penn State University and Virginia Tech, Suboleski worked off and on as a Massey executive since 1981, including a four-year stint as president of its United Coal Subsidiary.  If confirmed by the Senate, Suboleski would oversee projects such as developing clean-coal technologies and carbon sequestration, and policies related to fossil fuels.

 

Steven Winberg appointed research and development vice president for Consol Energy. Winberg has nearly three decades of experience in the energy industry, including innovative fuels.  His responsibilities at Consol have already encompassed greenhouse reduction technology, clean coal combustion and coal conversion technology.

 

Peter Scott, former chief financial officer at Norske Skog Australasia, appointed to the board of directors of Gloucester Coal, and will assume the role of CFO for the coal company.

 

Michael (Mick) Fritz appointed vice president of sales and marketing, and Dr. Andrew Fenwick appointed vice president of R&D, respectively, for CarboPrill, Inc., Evansville, IN.  Fritz will head up the sales launch of CarboPrill, the newly patented lasting additive system for surface mining and construction blasting.  Dr. Fenwick will lead the development of CarboPrill products, focusing on increasing blast efficiency of explosive materials, and explosion models.

 

Carl English, currently president of American Electric Power Utilities is the new chief operating officer.  Robert P. Powers, currently executive vice president-AEP East Utilities, will take English’s post as president-AEP Utilities.  Brian Tierney, currently senior vice president-commercial operations, will assume the role of executive vice president-AEP East Utilities. Barbara Radous, current vice president, commercial and financial analysis, named senior vice president-commercial operations.  Dennis Welch, current senior vice president-environment, safety and health, named executive vice president, safety, environment, health and facilities.  Susan Tomasky, current executive vice president-shared services, will move to a newly created position as president, AEP Transmission.  Stephen P. Smith, current company treasurer, will succeed Tomasky as senior vice president-shared services.  Dale Heydlauff will become vice president, corporate communications and will continue to oversee AEP’s Scioto Mile efforts.  Kevin Walker, currently serving as president of AEP Ohio, will become the company’s chief information officer, and Joe Hamrock will become president of AEP Ohio.  Succeeding Smith as treasurer will be Julie Sloat, current vice president-investor relations.  Stephen Haynes will move from his post as assistant treasurer to chief risk officer and vice president-strategic initiatives.

 

Thomas E. Hoaglin, chairman and chief executive officer of Huntington Bancshares Inc. , elected to American Electric Power’s board of directors.  A banker for more than 33 years, Hoaglin has a bachelor’s degree in economics from Denison University and a master’s of business administration from Stanford University.

 

Kent Carlson and Annemarie Fleming appointed field technical service managers for the western and eastern regions respectively, and Bob Sinclair named field engineer for the northwest region for Powers Fasteners, Inc., Brewster, NY. Carlson has more than 25 years experience in the construction industry. Ms. Fleming previously served as account executive for Global Spec, an engineering marketing service in Troy, NY. Sinclair brings more than 28 years engineering experience in the federal government to his new position.

 

Brian Groves joins Skygold Ventures Ltd, Vancouver, BC, Canada, as president and CEO and director.  Doug Fulcher will remain on the board of directors of Skygold.  Groves has worked in the Australian and Canadian mining and exploration industries for more than 29 years.  He will complement the technical team in advancing Spanish Mountain to its full potential.

 

Richard Stickler, assistant secretary, U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) will keep his seat, becoming acting head of the agency, despite the recent expiration of his temporary assignment.  Stickler was initially appointed by President Bush in late 2006.

 

Nick Greiner, former New South Wales premier, has been appointed to the Hunter Valley coal chain as an independent facilitator.  Greiner “will assist in breaking logjams and extracting grater efficiencies all through the Hunter Valley, from mine head to bulk carrier,” says ARTC Chief David Marchant.

 

Kurt Kost promoted to president and chief operating officer of Foundation Coal, Linthicum Heights, MD, and will be involved in the executive management of the company. Kost and James Roberts, chairman and chief executive officer, will be responsible for strategic planning initiatives and investor related activities.  Senior Vice President of Operations Jim Bryla will be responsible for Kost’s previous responsibilities for materials management, general equipment management, process improvement, business development, and oversight of the Planning and Engineering Group.

 

Craig Wood promoted to vice president and CFO Stagg Resource Consultants, Inc., Cross Lanes, WV, and also serves as the corporation’s secretary-treasurer on the board of directors.  In addition to overseeing the accounting, human resource, and information technology operations, Wood is a key member of the firm’s valuation and economic services group as the senior economic analyst.  He is involved in Stagg’s mineral appraisal activities and is an associate member of the American Institute of Minerals Appraisers.

 

Pat Udovich joins Penn Virginia as vice president, human resources. Udovich has a bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Rutgers University in economics and human resource management.

 

Kraig R. Naasz named the new chairman of the National Energy Foundation (NEF), succeeding American Petroleum Institute President and CEO Red Cavaney.

 

Willie McGranaqhan appointed deputy director and mine manager at The National Coal Mining Museum for England in Wakefield, responsible for managing 46 miners, checking gas levels, monitoring the mine water pumping operation and ensuring statutory checks on the winding equipment underground are kept up to date.  He will also ensure that the site is safe for the public.

 

David John Nel appointed to the board of Strategic Natural Resources PLC as chief operating officer and will concentrate on operations at SNR’s coal prospect at Indwe in South Africa’s Eastern Cape.  Nel is currently the commercial director of SNR’s principal operating subsidiary, Elitheni Coal Ltd, and is also a director of Eastgen Ltd and Western Ltd, and Southern Cape Corridor Power.  Nel has 13 years’ mining industry experience.

 

Rich Jefferson named to the newly created post of senior director of public relations for the Association of Equipment Manufacturers, and will oversee expanded outreach especially in public policy, global business development and workforce issues. 

 

Ross Dunning appointed as a central coordinator at Goonyella Coal Chain Capacity and will coordinate Queensland’s coal supply chain, a key recommendation of the first Stephen O’Donnell report.  Dunning was assured of the government’s full support in achieving outcomes as outlined in the report.
