Kevin Miller promoted to general manager, Americas Sales & Services, and Garth Miller promoted to the newly created position of vice president, customer relations, Industrial Scientific America, Pittsburgh, PA.  K. Miller will be responsible for all customer-facing sales and service functions for Industrial Scientific America, including driving profitable growth for the company’s entire product, service, and solution offering and building channels in emerging geographic markets.  G. Miller  (bottom photo) will retain responsibility for technical support, customer services and INet Fulfillment.  He will assume additional responsibility for repair services, rental services., commissioning and field services, and training.  He will focus on aligning and uniting all service and solution delivery functions.

 

Allen Dupree appointed vice president of health and safety role for Alpha Natural Resources, and will oversee the company’s existing team of safety experts as well as mine safety leadership and guidance.  Dupree will also counsel Alpha’s executive management on worker health and safety regulation and legislation issues. 

 

Keith Ross, managing director of Whitehaven, has stepped down from the company’s board of directors, and has been replaced by CEO Rob Stewart.  Ross has more than 50 years in the mining industry, and will remain at Whitehaven on an advisory basis.  Stewart joined Whitehaven in October 2007 as CEO and most recently held the position of executive manager of mining at Thiess.

 

Gordon “Tim” MacVean, former mining equipment manufacturing executive, passed away this past March.  MacVean joined Eickhoff Corp. in 1983 as vice president of the German mining equipment manufacturer’s North American operations in Pittsburgh, PA.  He became president and later chairman of the company and remained there until he retired in 1991.  During his tenure, he also served as chairman of the American Mining Congress’ Manufacturers Board of Governors and as a member of the board of the National Coal Association.

 

David R. Hill nominated by President Bush to replace Roger Martella as general counsel at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.  Hill has been general counsel at the U.S. Department of Energy since August 2005.  Previously, Hill was a partner in the Kansas City, MO, law firm of Blackwell Sanders Peper Martin, and a partner with Wiley, Rein & Fielding in Washington, DC.

 

Duke Vector, senior vice president for North American Coal, LLC, a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., named to the board of directors of the West Virginia Coal Association, Charleston, WV, for a term ending 2010.   Vector replaces Ben Statler who resigned from the board as a result of the recent acquisition of PinnOak by Cleveland-Cliffs.  Steve Capelli, COO at Parkstone Energy, LLC, named to represent Parkstone on the board.

 

Scott Pack, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Foundation Coal and president of Foundation Energy Sales, delivered the William Poundstone Lecture and received the Distinguished Engineering of Mines Award for the 2008 Spring semester at West Virginia University.

 

Scott Smith has joined ARCADIS, Denver, CO, an international consulting, design and engineering company, as a principal consultant, Global Ergonomic Practice Leader in Arcadis’ Laguna Hills, California office.  Smith is an expert at operational human excellence.  He has 17 years experience in ergonomics working with various large and mid-size companies and consultancies.

 

Mary L. Frontczak and Edward L. Sullivan promoted to posts of vice president and assistant general counsel, respectively, at Peabody Energy. Frontczak will provide legal counsel to Peabody’s Southwest and Colorado operations and will serve as litigation counsel for the company.  Sullivan will be responsible for legal counsel in Peabody’s domestic commercial transactions and operational matters.

 

Four vice presidents have been promoted at Fenner Dunlop Americas, Scottsdale, GA.  Chuck Prezioso promoted to executive vice president of operations, responsible for all manufacturing operations in the company’s four heavyweight conveyor belt manufacturing plants and single lightweight belting facility; Jim Gann promoted to executive vice president of lightweight and business development and will continue to work in business development while taking on additional P&L responsibility for the lightweight belting division in Charlotte, NC, and will be supported by Prezioso; Doug Simmons promoted to executive vice president of sales and marketing and will maintain his existing responsibilities within the sales and marketing group consisting of industrial and mining sales, national accounts and export sales; Dan Fischer promoted to executive vice president of finance and will maintain his existing responsibilities in the finance department.

 

Douglas R. Oberhelman, group president of Caterpillar Inc., Peoria, IL, named to the board of directors of the Association of Equipment Manufacturers (AEM), Milwaukee, WI, an international trade group for companies that manufacture equipment, products and services used worldwide.  Oberhelman will help set guidelines and operating policies of AEM on behalf of its members in the areas of technical and safety services, market information and equipment statistics, global public policy, trade shows, international support services, education and training, workforce development and worksite safety/educational materials.

 

Mark Schuerger will replace a retiring Randy Hansford as president of Riverton Coal in West Virginia.  Riverton vice president of engineering Phillip Saunders will take over the position of president at Kingston Mining, vacated by a retiring Dale Birchfield.  Schuerger is an 11-year veteran with Riverton with degrees in civil and mining engineering and is a certified mine foreman and rescuer.  Saunders has more than a dozen years of industry experience in management, production and engineering.  Two other personnel changes at Foundation Coal’s complexes include Kingston chief engineer George Smith who becomes vice president of engineering for Riverton.  Technical services superintendent John Boria, who worked in Wyoming’s Powder River Basin, will replace Schuerger as vice president of operations.

 

Michael Ondruch has joined Safety Vision, L.P., Houston, TX, as chief financial officer.  Ondruch will forge a business strategy leadership role within the company while serving as financial liaison within the business community, reinforcing relationships, and maximizing efficiencies among employees, suppliers, and clients alike.  He will also help the company achieve its goal of $100 million in top-line revenue by 2010.

 

Eugene Peck, P.G. , LEED-AP has joined Arcadis, Denver, CO, as a technical expert specializing in environmental restoration and will be located in Hartford, CT.  Peck is an expert in coastal zone/watershed management and sustainability policy, sediment management and restoration.  He specializes in resource evaluation, impact/liability assessment, monitoring, regulatory processes, permitting, and project management.

 

Jon Warner, a junior in the mining engineering program at the University of Utah has been named the winner of the 2007 Michelin Mining Essay Contest and has been awarded a $5,000 scholarship.  First runner-up, Daniel Marsh, a junior studying mining engineering at the University of Arizona, has received a $3,000 scholarship.  Experts from the mining industry selected the winners from dozens of applicants. 

 

Mark Read appointed chief executive and managing director of Sedgman, succeeding outgoing managing director Peter Hay.  Read started his career with BHP Engineering in 1982, before moving Sinclair Knight Merz for 20 years where he served as general manager of its mining and metals business unit.  Read will direct the company’s growth phase in Australia and abroad.

 

Kevin Harrison of CED joins Rulmeca Corporation as the company’s newest sales representative, covering Kentucky and south Indiana and Illinois.

 

Timothy Glazar (left) joins Godwin Pumps, Bridgeport, NJ, as risk manager.  Glazar has over 20 years experience in due diligence, risk management and regulatory compliance, including loss prevention and control in industrial, manufacturing and commercial facilities.  Mike Cable has been appointed environmental, health & safety specialist with Godwin, and will work to establish and/or implement safety regulations, including training and auditing programs at each Godwin location.

 

Ian Cockerill appointed chief executive officer of Anglo American Coal with a goal to further the company’s global coal operations.   Anglo American also announced the appointment of Kuseni Diamini as head of the South Africa operation with day-to-day responsibilities that include internal transformation of the South African business and alignment with the group’s global strategy.   In a third appointment, Russell King named chief strategy officer with the role of working closely with executive management to define and execute the group strategy and lead performance monitoring processes.

 

Helene Merkel joins Arcadis, Denver, CO, as director of federal planning & permitting, and will be located at the Baltimore, MD office.  Merkel has extensive and diverse expertise in natural resources management, environmental and urban planning, hazardous waste management, and policy analysis.

 

Gary Goldberg elected president and chief executive officer of Rio Tinto Minerals, as the board’s vice chairman, by the National Mining Association’s Board of Directors in Washington, DC.
